Those who know the XC track at Offenburg know why the SpeedKing was developed. Hard, dry terrain where only one thing counts: speed. The semi slick profile offers minimal rolling resistance and weight and the RaceSport carcass offers puncture protection.

The lightly raised outer lugs provide enough grip to maintain good speeds when cornering and the centre area is made up of flat, wedge-shaped lugs which whilst keeping the rolling resistance low, still provide drive when needed. The large 2.2 RaceSport carcass offers reliable puncture protection when racing and can be ridden with lower air pressure. The extreme properties of this tyre have their price: Lower mileage and a limited wet grip, a pedigreed racer.
The RaceSport carcasses combine logical light construction and noticeably better protection against flat tyres at the very highest level. Together with famous professional mountain bikers, we have created the perfect starting basis for competition tyres. Handmade in Germany, they offer a 30 % better protection against flat tyres than Supersonic tyres. The construction makes the difference particularly the fine and high-grade nylon fabric with an expensive, protective, rubber lining and a universal foot. Together with the legendary Black Chili Compound, the ultimate combination for XC racing and marathon events.
Black Chili Compound
For Black Chili Continental refine newly developed synthetic rubbers with natural rubber with the proven high-performance tread compound. We use these rubbers with special nanometric carbon soot particles, which are optimized in shape and surface properties for best uses for the intended tyre. Black Chili Compound reaches an unprecedented of performance. Tyres with Black Chili Compound reach an unprecedented level of performance. Compared to the previous best Activated Silica Compound, Black Chili tyres have 26% less rolling resistance, a 30 % higher friction value (grip) and a 5 % increase in mileage.
These road tyres will fit Mountain Bike wheels and are primarily for road and light trail use. They will be faster and grip better than a standard ‘knobbly’ styled cross country tyre on road. These tyres work by putting a large area of grippy rubber in contact with the road so they only need a minimal tread pattern. This semi-slick design reduces rolling resistance and improves both speed and safety. Sharp objects like thorns and glass are likely to work their way through your tyres and cause punctures so choose a model with built-in puncture protection. After all, you will want to get home from work or morning ride on time... especially if it's raining! Kevlar shielding as found in the Schwalbe tyre range is a common choice and works well at reducing the amount of punctures. Some Continental tyres even come with a 1 year anti puncture guarantee and use a Kevlar and Polyamide filaments to form a protective belt under the tread.
More than 100 years experience in the development and production of bicycle tyres has made Continental a unique company within the industry. Continental is the only German bicycle tyre manufacturer to produce its tyres in Germany. Knowing this serves as a mighty incentive to our engineers and everyone else involved in the manufacturing process to constantly strive for further innovations. In our technology and development center in Korbach, we are constantly developing new revolutionary technologies such as the unbeatable Black Chili Compound and the ultimate Vectran™ Breaker anti-puncture technology, both used at the top end of race sport. These technologies demand sophisticated processes to ensure our legendary end-product quality, and these innovations as well as the new “ProTection” and ”RaceSport” technology for MTB tyres, can only be manufactured in our factory in Germany – “Handmade in Germany”. In order to offer the best tyre for any application, we rely equally on dialogue with our professional racers, hobby cyclists and everyday bike riders. This results not only in high-end products for top sports applications such as the new Podium TT or the revolutionary downhill tyre “Der Kaiser”, but also tyres for everyday use like the new innovative combination EcoContact/EcoContact Plus as a companion to the latest e-bike trend. As a global player, Continental also maintains high-tech production facilities outside of Germany, where Continental tyres are produced for you with an equal degree of care and dedication. One thing all Continental bicycle tyres have in common is that they are developed in the technology center in Korbach, Germany, where they also undergo strict inspection. Our heart and soul is behind the phrase “Handmade in Germany”, with all of its products and technologies.
